The Old Moat House

Moated farmhouse, now house. C20 inscription dates house to
c1480. Later additions and alterations including probably C17
range to right. Timber-framing with painted plaster infill to
left part, with reddish-pink brick facade to right and renewed
tile roof. L-plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic to left and single-storey plus
attic to right. Entrance off-centre to right part: 4-panel
door in moulded wood surround under elliptical arch.
Left part: brick plinth; jettied first floor with massive
bressumer beam on end studs with brackets; close-studded
timber-framing with angle braces to ground and first floors.
2- and 3-light metal casement windows throughout with external
latches.
Gable end to right part has exposed queen post truss,
interrupted by window. Original wall plate and purlins
project. Internal and right end stacks. Brick buttress to
rear.
INTERIOR: right part has square panels of timber-framing to 2
partition walls. The house is believed to have crucks.
Otherwise not inspected.
Forms a group with Barn and Stables (qv).
