House. C16/C17 with C19 additions, the front (timber-framed)
wing believed to have been removed from Church Street,
Stratford-upon-Avon, c1920-30.
Close-studded timber-framing with arched braces with painted
plaster infill on stone plinth to front (north) wing, with
reddish-brown brick ranges to either side, that to right has
coursed limestone ground floor, plain-tile roofs. Irregular
T-shaped plan.
EXTERIOR: mostly 2 storeys plus attic. Entrance to left range
has C20 door in wood frame. Fixed-light window to left under
elliptical arch. First floor of left range has 2 2-light wood
casements under elliptical arches, modillion eaves cornice;
timber-framed part projects to front and has 2- and 4-light
wood mullioned windows with lead cames and exterior hooks, one
to left return to attic is gabled. The first floor is jettied.
Range to right has wood and metal casements in wood frames
under elliptical arches, modillion eaves cornice. Gabled
roofs. End and ridge stacks with cornices.
INTERIOR: has double-chamfered, basket-arched fireplace with
fluting to sides to front wing.
HISTORY: deeds of the site go back to 1660, when known as Hall
End Yard.
