GV II*

Country house. c1700, with c1760 and C20 alterations. Brick
with vitrified headers laid to Flemish bond and limestone
ashlar dressings; steeply pitched hipped and gabled old tile
roof with brick internal stacks. Early-Georgian style. H-plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic; symmetrical 3-bay range plus
2-bay projecting wings. Ashlar plinth, brick plat band over
ground floor and top cornice; quoins. Entrance has Tuscan
doorcase with open pediment and fanlight over panelled and
glazed door. Windows have architraves and 6/6 sashes in flush
wood frames; 4 pedimented dormers.
INTERIOR: entrance hall has gallery with twisted balusters and
string with acanthus scrolls, C20 staircase and C18 frieze;
mostly c1760 and later, including Adam-style plaster ceiling
and fireplaces, 2 with shell-work by Mary Delaney; reputed to
contain fragments of the demolished Theatre Royal, Birmingham.
