Brighton and Preston Cemetery:
mortuary chapel

Cemetery chapel. c1900. Flint with dressings of red brick, and
of stone to the windows; roof of tiles, shingled spire.
A simple building of 2 bays with tower and spire. Brick bands,
and brickwork at the angles, throughout. East window of 3
stepped lancets with ogee heads; north and south sides have 2
4-light windows with similar details and a broad buttress
between; north vestry with flat-arched windows now blocked and
pointed-arched entrance. West tower, the west face buttressed
and 2 small lancets to the second stage; the whole of the
lower part of the tower open on the south side, forming a
large porch under a chamfered and sub-ordered arch;
pointed-arched entrance to the church on its east side, with
mouldings instead of chamfers and a dripmould. Splay-footed
spire with lucarnes.
INTERIOR: simple with panelled seating round the walls.
