Feldon House and attached railings

GV II

House, now flats and attached railings. c1824-1828 with later
alterations. Pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco front
facade, Welsh slate roof and cast-iron railings.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement and attics, 4 first-floor
window range. Windows: ground, first and second floors have
6/6 sashes with tooled architraves throughout, all have ears
except second floor, 2 to left. Entrance, third bay: 5 steps
to 4-panel door with overlight within 2-columnar Doric porch
with frieze, cornice, blocking course. Basement has 4-panel
door to third bay, otherwise 4/4, 6/6 and 8/8 sash. Frieze,
cornice, low parapet. Roof dormers. Ridge and end stacks. 2
full-height curved bays have 6/6 sashes.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: lancet area railings and to sides of
porch.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Portland Place was laid out in 1823-4.
Nos 4-14 (even) Portland Place (qv) and Nos 52 and 54 Grove
Street (qv) constitute an architectural group.
