Villa, now 2 houses. 1824 with later additions and
alterations. Architect, Peter Frederick Robinson, of Brook
Street, Mayfair, pupil of Henry Holland, for Mr Willes.
Brick with painted stucco facades and Welsh slate roof. Swiss
style.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 2 first-floor windows. Left bay projects,
both are gabled. Ground floor has 2 canted bays, that to right
to full height, bay windows have 3-light mullion and transom
windows with single-lights to sides, otherwise first floor has
3-light mullion and transom window in plain reveals and with
hoodmould. All windows have chamfered sills. To left, gable
has blind niche with hoodmould. Decorative barge-boards to
gables. Diamond roof stacks. Entrances: to left, rear a glazed
door. To right return a part-glazed door.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
HISTORICAL NOTE: a complete square of stucco terraces,
Clarendon Square was laid out to the plans of PF Robinson,
architect, of Brook Street, Mayfair. The houses were completed
c1832, the gardens in the Square were planted with trees in
May 1830.
