Corner house. c1820. Stucco. Roof obscured by parapet.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attic. One-window range, 4 on the
return. All openings are flat arched, except where stated
otherwise. C20 shop front of no distinction to ground floor.
At left party wall, corner and rear of return rise giant
Composite order pilasters to first and second floors; these
support a continuous entablature; entablature band and parapet
to attic storey as well. In main elevation, centred between
the pilasters, is a 2-storey bay, originally segmental. In the
late C19 a canted, cast-iron bay with tripartite windows
inserted: windows have quadrant corners to the centre and
round-arched windows to the sides; glazed transoms to each
window bear traces of early C20 commercial lettering. Bay to
second floor has tripartite windows with sashes of original
design: 6 x 6 to centre and 4 x 4 to sides. Attic window above
is also tripartite with sashes of original design: 3 x 6 to
centre and 2 x 4 to sides. 2 entrances at either end of
return, each framed by Tuscan pilasters and entablature;
banded rustication and 2 windows with panelled spandrels.
Corner-window range is blocked. First- and second-floor
windows on the return have projecting sills, the former
having, in addition, recessed spandrels. In 4th-window range a
segmental bay to the first floor only. Many sashes of original
design on the return: third-window range, second floor, 6 x 6
sashes, attic floor, 3 x 6 sashes; 4th-window range, second
floor, 6 x 6 to centre and 4 x 4 to sides of tripartite
window; and 4th-window range, attic floor, 3 x 6 to centre and
2 x 4 to sides of tripartite window.
