Terraced houses. c1865. Stucco scored as ashlar, roof of tiles
to No.1, otherwise obscured by parapet.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys over basement, 3 windows each. The
standard design for the terrace is that the houses are
separated from each other by full-height pilasters rusticated
to the ground floor and with 2 blocks, the lower bracketed, at
cornice level; steps up to a round-arched entrance with
moulded archivolt, fanlight and panelled door; a springing
band links the entrance archivolt to those over the 2
round-arched ground-floor windows which also have panelled
aprons; first- and second-floor windows flat-arched with
moulded architraves; bracketed balcony to first floor with
cast-iron balustrade of scrolling foliage, small bracketed
sills to second floor with cast-iron window-guards; cornice
and parapet; stacks to party walls; walls and corniced gate
piers to steps, cast-iron railings with spearhead finials to
area.
Features of individual houses are: No.1 has dormers in mansard
roof; No.3 has all mouldings simplified; No.5 has all
mouldings simplified and no panelled door; Nos 7 and 9 have
all mouldings simplified; No.11 has mouldings to first- and
second-floor windows simplified; No.13 has 2-storey porch to
side with round-arched entrance having plain springing band
and keystone, and 3 round-arched windows to ground floor with
plain springing band and keystone,; and has lost mouldings to
architraves.
