Forge and stables. Early C19. Red brick and weather-boarded timber-frame on moulded brick plinth. Slate roof to forge and adjoining stable. Pantile roof to stable beyond. Two brick stacks, one truncated, to forge. Single storey. Forge to left has window to front with shutters and lapped glass to narrow lights, 8 in all. Stable doors on either end with small window in left gable. Door to right opens onto open-fronted traverse with brick floor and partly timber-framed walls. Close studding of light scantling with long angle braces. Stable beyond has double doors and further stable to far right has door and projects forward. Rear of stables has further doorways. INTERIOR. Remarkably unaltered forge retains two hearths, one with bellows intact, the other with bellows disconnected at one side, and various fixed benches, shelves and machinery. Stables have brick floors and close studded framing of light scantling. Low-pitched roofs with clasped purlins and collars. These little altered buildings form a good group with The Old Forge and Willowside (qv).
