Set of almshouses designed as flats. 1938-9. By Cautley and Barefoot for the Cranfield family charitable settlement. Red brick with plain-tile hipped roofs and brick stacks. Vernacular Revival style. 2 storeys. Front to Chelsworth Avenue has paired half-hipped gables which project forward. Fenestration of 1 - 3-light leaded casements. Various doors. Similar rear facade with gables faces rear of Nos.1-28 Cranfield Court (qv). Forms a good group of almshouses with Nos.1-28, Lodge (qv), and Lych-gate (qv).
