House. Dated 1928 on doorway; by G Henderson, for his own
occupation. White painted roughcast on brick, very steeply
pitched green slate roof. Arts-and-Crafts style. Rectangular
plan, plus small front outshut.
EXTERIOR: one-and-a-half storeys; 2-window range. Off-set
slightly right of centre is a square-headed doorway which has
a C17-vernacular-style sandstone architrave with raised
moulded surround stepped over raised lettering on the lintel:
GH / 19 - GM - 28.
Flanking the doorway is one single-light casement right and
left. To the left is an outshut with catslide roof and a
similar window in its right-hand side, and to the right a
downspout with a large ex-situ C18 rainwater head (lettered
and dated).
In the roof, off-set slightly left, a pair of 2-light dormers
with hipped roofs. All these windows have pegged oak frames
with unusual projecting external hinges and leaded glazing. 2
ridge chimneys. The left gable wall has a window at first
floor with good Art Nouveau leaded glazing.
Rear (to garden): 3-window facade with 3-light casements on
both floors, the upper in dormers with hipped roofs, except
the left end of the ground floor which has a rectangular
recess with French windows.
INTERIOR: original features and fittings by the architect
almost totally intact, including internal strap-hinges to the
front door with acorn-motif terminals, white painted rough
plastered walls, plain oak doorcases and doors with bronze
furniture, staircase with carved open-work balustrade,
fireplaces with original tiled and wooden surrounds, sitting
room ceiling with moulded plaster motifs (thistle,
fleur-de-lys, etc), built-in cupboards, toilet with original
fittings.
