Commercial building including 7 shops; with attached verandah.
Later C19; altered. Red brick (No.177 painted white) with
sandstone dressings and red tile roofs to oriel windows, roof
concealed but probably slate; verandah of cast-iron and glass.
Eclectic style.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and 8 bays; with pilasters (alternately
channelled to incorporate downspouts), second-floor sill band,
machicolated parapet, and false gablets in all bays except the
third and sixth.
The ground floor has C20 shop fronts; the first floor has
canted oriel windows with wooden mullions and transoms, and
tiled roofs which are alternately hipped and single-pitched on
brackets; the second floor has 3 narrow windows per bay except
the third and sixth which have 4, all with shouldered heads.
Ridge chimneys.
8-bay verandah with slender cast-iron columns, altered fascias
and renewed single-pitched glazed roof.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Forms group with Nos 143-161 adjoining to the left (qv) and
Nos 179-205 (qv) adjoining to the right; and the verandah part
of the series which characterizes this street.
