House. Circa mid-late C17; remodelled and extended C18/19; extended circa late C19. Timber-framed, re-fronted in dressed stone [whitewashed]. Steeply-pitched Welsh slate roof with gabled ends. Brick axial and gable-end stacks.
PLAN: Originally a small 1 or 2-room plan cottage; the centre room heated from a large fireplace in an axial stack, and with an outshut on the back containing a winder staircase; the small unheated left [N] room which might have been added is now partitioned axially and has a fireplace in the front room in the axial stack; the right-hand [S] room [parlour] was added in the C18 or early C19. Late in the C19 or early in the C20 a single-storey service wing was added at the rear [E] of the north end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attic. Asymmetrical 3:1 window west front; the left 3 bays has early C19 3-light casements on ground floor and 2-light casements above, all with glazing bars and keystones in flat arches; central doorway with cambered arch and plank door; recessed bay to right blind; casements with glazing bars on right [S] gable end. Roof at rear carried down as catslide over timber-framed outshut on left and loggia on right with small gabled dormer above; small casement windows; single storey gable-ended painted brick rear wing on right. Timber-framing exposed on N end gable.
INTERIOR: Centre room has deeply chamfered axial beam without stops, unchamfered joists and large fireplace partly blocked and bressumer boarded over. Direct entry into centre room now has lobby with later partitions. Small left room in front of stack with simple chimneypiece with keyblock, imposts and shelf. Right [S] room has roughly chamfered axial beam without stops and simple Victorian chimneypiece and grate. Winder staircase. Chambers have chamfered axial beams and exposed joists. Old plank doors. Roof has central truss with low collar and principals crossed at apex, trenched purlins; later softwood common-rafter roof built above.
