St Mary Magdalene School Annexe and attached railings

Church school. 1901. By Philip Robson, built to house the
schools started in mid C19 by the first incumbent of St Mary
Magdalene Church, Munster Square (qv). Red brick with stone
dressings in modified Queen Anne style with Art Nouveau
influences. Slate roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and semi-basement. 3 windows. Entrance to
left, above which a full height canted oriel, the angles
defined by pilasters; small mezzanine, segmental-arched
casements, those at 1st floor with segmental hoodmoulds joined
at pilasters. To right, gauged brick segmental arches to wide
tripartite windows at ground floor, keystones of which form
base of V-shaped aprons to narrow 1st floor transom and
mullion casements with stone segmental hoodmoulds on brackets
over gauged brick heads. Parapet breaks forward around oriel,
all with good Art Nouveau cast-iron balustrade. Between ground
floor windows, a shaped stone date plaque with Maltese cross.
Cast-iron rainwater head to right enriched with a lily and
inscribed "St. M.".
INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached, good
cast-iron railings to areas in Art Nouveau style with tree
motifs.
