GV II

Detached house on a corner site. 1905. By CHB Quennell; built
by GW Hart. Red brick with rusticated brick quoins to 1st
floor angles. Tiled gabled roofs with dormers, tall brick slab
chimney-stacks with modillion friezes and overhanging eaves
with painted timber bracketed soffit. Asymmetrical design,
return to Bracknell Gardens also of interest.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. 2 windows. Main facade right
hand projecting gabled bay with canted bowed bay of 7 transom
and mullion lights with small leaded panes through ground and
1st floor; eaves soffit continues around 1st floor. Gable with
cut and rubbed brick diaper enrichment and modillion eaves.
Left hand bay with subsidiary entrance of part-glazed door
with sidelights and overlight; 3-light transom and mullion
window above with brick modillion band which continues across
the facade and return. Main entrance in angle of right hand
return; unusual single storey porch of 4 round-arched openings
with impost bands, modillion frieze and penthouse roofs rises
over steps to doorway with panelled door having a round light
with glazing bars. Double gabled return to Bracknell Gardens
with canted bowed bay to right hand ground floor and transom
and mullion windows. Tall gables swept on outer angles with
short returns of eaves soffit; cut and rubbed brickwork
enrichment in apexes.
