4 garden statues and a cistern in the grounds of Fenton House
(qv). Shepherd and shepherdess situated outside the front
door, c1735, by John Cheere for Coldbath Abbey, King's Heath,
Worcester. Lead figures on stone pedestals. Both depicted in
C18 rustic costume, she holding an apple in each hand, he
stands with legs crossed and holds a crook. The shepherdess is
currently in store, having been stolen c1988 but subsequently
recovered. Bacchus with a faun situated on the North Lawn,
C19. Lead figures on a circular base and stone pedestal. Nude
figure of Bacchus holding a shallow bowl in raised left hand
and a bunch of grapes in the right hand. Behind is a small
figure of a faun. Sitting toad situated at the north-east end
of the North Lawn, C19. Bronze. Realistically moulded figure
of a sitting toad approximately 10" high.
Cistern in the Orchard Garden, dated 1723. Lead. Rectangular
plan with relief decoration of 2 ovals, within a geometric
pattern, having the same scene of a knight in armour on a
rearing horse. Garland drops at angles.
