The Guard House (Cafe)

Guard house, now office. Early C19. Brick with slate hipped roof. Single-depth plan. Single-storey; 3-bay range to each side. Chamfered surrounds with rubbed brick flat arches to central doorway and recessed door, and 6/6-pane sashes; E front has a left-hand doorway with 4-pane overlight and boarded door, and 6/6-pane sashes, N and S returns have 3 doorways with narrow overlights and boarded doors, E.
INTERIOR: simple, converted into cafe. HISTORY: a pair with the matching guard house opposite, now the Customs House (qv) and part of a complete group of Georgian dockyard buildings. Prominent position next to the ropery complex, and graded for its historical importance as a significant element within this notably complete Georgian dockyard and factory.
