Terrace of 4 houses. Early C19. Stucco with channelled ground
floors, plain band at 1st floor level and upper floors as
ashlar. 4 storeys and basements. 2 windows each. Square-headed
doorways with fanlights and panelled doors. Recessed sashes;
1st floor with console bracketed cornices and cast-iron
balconies. Main cornice at 3rd floor level. Cornice above
attic storey with deep parapet. INTERIORS: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached cast-iron railings with
spearhead finials to areas. HISTORICAL NOTE: No.55 was the
home of Henry Mayhew, founder of Punch magazine (LCC plaque).
