Description

SOUTHWARK

TQ3477NE CANAL GROVE
636-1/38/186 Gas standard adapted to electric
light

GV II

Gas standard. Late C19; adapted to electric light in early
C20. Cast-iron and another metal. Cylindrical in section.
Flute socle and flute tapering shaft which forms a bell, all
of which forms the extent of the gas light. The extension
above the shaft, like the curved arm, was added to give extra
height when the fixture was converted to electric light, and
as such it has intrinsic value, as do the cylindrical
fuse-cum-timer compartment and the fixture itself with its
shallow reflector.
The fixture forms a group with Nos 2-9 Canal Grove (consec)
(qqv).
