The Grapes Public House

Public house. Mid C19 with early C18 wing to rear. Brick with
stucco dressings; roof obscured.
Street elevation: multi-coloured stock brick with stucco
dressings; roof obscured behind stucco blocking course. 4
storeys, 2 bays. Ground floor: to left, replicated bow window
with small panes above panelled dado, passageway to right.
Granite pilasters support fascia with heavy moulded brackets
and dentil cornice. Single-storey extension to left with
window and entrance. First floor has pair of sashes with
stucco architraves and console bracketed cornices. 2nd- and
3rd-floor sashes with segmental, gauged-brick arches. Stucco
quoins.
To rear, in yard, attached range: C18, altered. Red brick with
steeply pitched tile roof with deep eaves cornice. Plain brick
storey bands. 3 storeys, 5 bays. Ground floor fascia board,
partly obscuring brick band at 1st floor and resting on flat
pilasters. Engraved glass window. First-floor sash windows
with glazing bars in near flush box frames, under segmental
brick arches, the 2 to the right later extended below their
sills. Central opening partly blocked, with a small window
inserted. 4 second-floor similar windows, with central blind
panel, slightly recessed. Wrought-iron lampholder over door.
