House, now offices, late C17 or early C18, refronted mid C19
and with later C20 alterations. Stock brick; tiled roof with
flat roofed dormer.
3 storeys and attic; 1 bay. Stack to left. Original gable to
rear but with later fenestration. Ground-floor later C20 shop
front. 1st- and 2nd-floor windows later C20 metal casements
(replacing mid C19 tripartite sashes) under rebuilt brick
soldier arches.
INTERIOR: has staircase from 1st floor up, with ovolo-moulded
closed string, square sectioned rail, newel with ball finial
and pendants, urn shaped balusters, removed, stripped and
replaced. Fireplaces blocked but said to survive behind C20
boarding. 2-panelled doors, at front with H-hinges, at rear
with HL-hinges. 1st-floor kitchen range in rear room.
No.55 forms a group with No.53 (qv).
