House (at one time divided into 2 cottages). C17. Timber framed with
colourwashed render and a plaintiled roof, probably originally thatched.
Two storeys with attic. Baffle-entry, 2-cell plan. Entrance front: mostly
C19 or C20 fenestration. Plank door to the ground floor at near-centre and
at left of this is a single-light casement. To right and left are C19
three-light casements. The first floor has, at right, a 2-light and two
single-light casements, all contained within one frame, and to the left a
similar arrangement. To the centre is a 2-light window with ovolo-moulded
surround. Near-central chimney stack to the ridge with moulded base of 2
flues. Right hand gable end: C20 fenestration. Four-light ground floor
and 2-light first floor and 2-light attic casements. Left hand gable end:
5-light casement with ovolo-moulded mullions (mostly C20 replacements)
together with a single-light, all contained within one frame and to the
left a similar arrangement. To the centre is a 2-light window with ovolo-
moulded surround. Near-central chimney stack to the ridge with moulded
base of 2 flues. Right hand gable end: C20 fenestration. Four-light
ground floor and 2-light first floor and 2-light attic casements. Left
hand gable end: 5-light casement with ovolo-moulded mullions (mostly C20
replacements) with a single-light immediately to the right. The first
floor had another 5-light ovolo-moulded mullioned window. Two-light
casement to the attic with a slightly projecting gabled wing to left of
this. Rear: C20 gable wings at centre and right with a flat-roofed 2-
storey range between them. Recessed portion at left of this with C20
French windows and a 4-light window with ovolo-moulded mullions and
surround to the first floor.
Interior: sitting room: chamfered beams and joists all with stepped lamb's
tongue end stops. Central hearth with floating bressumer beam. Close
studded walls with one blocked window. Similar beams walling and a blocked
window to other ground floor room. Winder staircase leading up from
baffle-entry lobby. Close studded walling, jowled wall posts and blocked
windows to the first floor.
