- II
Farmhouse. Late C16 with early C18 dairy range to left. Timber framed and
plastered, the facade cased in late C18 or early C19 colourwashed brick;
pantiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 3 cell main range. 3 windows, late
C18/early C19 3-light mullion and transom casements under flat brick arches;
there are 2 original ovolo-moulded mullioned windows to the right hand gable
end and the rear, and 2 further blocked windows visible inside with evidence
for others. Lobby entrance with colourwashed brick gabled porch and C19 6-
panel door (the upper 2 panels glazed) set in the left hand side. On the
right hand gable end the ends of the wallplate are supported on carved console
brackets. Internal stack. The interior has good exposed framing. The main
beams in the hall and parlour have multiple roll-moulding and in the hall
there are also moulded joists; there is a plank and muntin screen in the hall,
evidently moved from its original position as it now bisects an original
window. Both the parlour and the room above have arched brick fireplaces with
stone quoins; above the parlour fireplace are 5 medieval terracotta tiles,
inserted C20, probably from a church (perhaps St. Peter's, Linstead Magna).
Good newel stairs. Some original doors, with a good former exterior door
leading into the dairy range.
