WITH STRATTON HALL
5/17
Burnaville Hall
16.3.66
- II

House, formerly manor house. Late C16 with alterations of C18 and early C19.
3-cell plan. 2 storeys. Timber-framed, encased in early C19 red brick.
Plaintiled roofs with end and internal chimneys of red brick; the latter has a
cruciform-plan shaft and is probably a C17 rebuilding. 4-light windows of C18
type, perhaps reset in C19 brick openings with segmental heads; slender wooden
mullions and transomes and casements with leaded lights. One casement has a
stained glass achievement, dated 1607. On the garden elevation the upper
storey windows are set in 3 prominent gablets of brick. Substantial unmoulded
C16 first floor structure and studwork exposed. A single-cell rear wing was
added in C17 or C18, and encased with the main range in C19.
