House, formerly small manor house. C16 with Cl9 and C20 additions and
alterations. Timber-framed with whitewashed render, Flemish bond brick and
a plain-tiled roof. Two storeys with attic. Three-cell, baffle-entry plan
to which have been added a slightly projecting brick wing, a staircase wing
and an outshut. Entrance front: C20 fenestration common to the whole
house. The projecting brick wing is at left with a projecting plinth which
dies back via an offset. Blank at ground floor level, above which the
walling dies back by means of another offset. Two lateral single-light
casements to the first floor. Brick kneelers support brick pyramidal
pinnacles and to the apex of the gable is a massive chimney-stack with 3
octagonal flues which terminate in richly decorated caps with oversailing
courses. To right of this the timber-framed portion is rendered and has a
brick plinth. At right of centre is a projecting C20 semi-octagonal porch
with hipped roof and central doorway. To right and left are windows each
having 4 central lights with ovolo-moulded mullions and a transom to either
side of which are small upper 2-light windows starting at the level of the
transom of the larger window. The first floor has two similar windows.
The right hand bay projects very slightly. To the ridge is a massive
chimney-stack with moulded top bearing 4 octagonal flues with moulded bases
and capitals of oversailing courses. The right hand gable end has French
windows at ground floor level and to the first floor are a 4-light casement
window with 2 upper lights to either side in ovolo-moulded frame. Two-
light casement to the gable. Left hand side: brickwork of wing at right,
to left of which is C20 brick at ground floor level. Eight-light ovolo-
moulded window at ground floor right. Above this is a 4-light window with
lateral upper lights and there is a 2-light gabled attic window. Rear: at
left are 4-light central windows with flanking 2-light upper windows to the
ground and first floors. To left of centre is the projecting staircase bay
which has a 5-light casement at mezzanine level between the ground and
first floors and a further 4-light window at the upper mezzanine level
between the first and attic floors. The gable above that has plain
bargeboards. To right of this is a C19 outshut with catslide roof and
brick walling with three cambered-headed 2-light casement windows, three
cambered-headed 2-light casement windows to left and a stable door with
cambered head at right. Above this are 2 levels of gabled dormer windows
each level having 2 windows of 2 lights.

Interior: exposed close-studding to all the ground and first floor rooms
with plank doors and uneven panelling in one ground floor room, perhaps
brought from elsewhere. Chamfered ceiling beams with ogee end-stops.
Staircase of 4 flights with turned balusters, moulded hand-rail, knop
finials. Ovolo-moulded ceiling beams to the first floor.
