Lodge to former psychiatric hospital. 1867-1869, by E.L Stephens, Borough Surveyor. Gothic Revival style, similar to the hospital. Red brick, with blue brick and ashlar dressings, and slate roofs with a central corbelled ridge stack. Dentillated eaves.
Single storey, cruciform plan, with half-hipped roofs on the main axis, and gabled cross wing. Entrance front has a projecting gable with tracery and bargeboard. Canted brick and ashlar bay window, flanked to right by a painted ashlar doorcase under a relieving arch. Half-glazed door. To left, a two-light mullioned window. To left again, a lower service bay with a similar window and hipped roof. Right return has half-hipped bay with a renewed window under a relieving arch.
