Alternatively known as: Footbridge to North of Whitchurch, Black Park Road.
Footbridge. c1872. Built for the London and North Western Railway Company. Cast iron and wood. Single span suspension bridge for the carrying of pedestrians over the railway line. A-frame wooden vertical supports with iron bracing and joints linked at the base to curved stone foundation blocks with iron rods. Small outer frames at the end of the bridge decking link to iron steps at either end. Decking has wooden planks set into iron frame with thin iron balustrades. Suspension cables made of forged iron link chains from which the flat decking is hung by iron rods. This is a very early and rare example of a pedestrian suspension bridge.
