II
Public house. 1872. By Henry Jarvis. Brick in mixed bonds with
stone dressings. Hipped and gable facing roofs of slate.
Gothic Revival style.
PLAN: unusual plan, almost heart-shaped, and abutting the
railway to the north-west; straight range of one window to
Bedale Street.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and roof dormers. Single-window range to
Bedale Street with triple windows; a bevelled range
articulated by full-height rectangular bay resting on
ground-floor corbels; curving range to Green Dragon Court. The
bay range terminates in 2-light gabled dormer; all windows
below also 2-light except for that to ground floor which has
quadrant corners and is repeated across the public house
elevation.
Variety of window openings, dormers and decorative treatments
combine to make a most picturesque and striking design.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
