Pair of suburban houses. 1850s. Probably by James Harrison to
the same design as Nos 4 and 6 St John's Road (qv).
Orange-brown brick with grey slate roofs.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; handed with a projecting bay to each side
of a pair of central bays; a small 2-storey recessed porch bay
on each end. The architectural treatment relates to no
specific style.
Both porches are altered, enclosing the original detailing.
Mullioned square 6-light bay window with painted stone sill,
plinthed corner posts and transom forming a St Andrew's Cross
in each light in each end-bay; 3 lancets with 3-pane sashes to
each central bay; hipped roofs of fish-scale slates over bay
windows have lead rolls. The first floor has 2
triangular-arched casements to each house, with tracery in the
form of king post trusses. Front gable to each outer bay;
dormer gable above each inner casement. 3 ridge chimneys with
separated flues. Each end has two 2-pane lancets behind the
porch to the ground floor and a Y-tracery window to the first
floor.
