Farmhouse, now public house. C17, rebuilt c1725, extended to
rear c1816, altered c1976. For the Kirke family, c1725 rebuild
for Robert Midgley. Coursed squared gritstone, stone slate
roof.
2 storeys, 3 bays. Quoins. Entrance left of centre has stepped
roll moulding to quoined jambs, carried across the lintel as a
decorative wavy line in an 'M' shape. Recessed chamfered
mullioned windows, central mullions removed, plate-glass
windows. Remains of cyma-moulded kneelers, gable copings
removed, stepped external end stacks and ridge stack between
bays 2 and 3, all corniced and raised with banded tops. Left
return: rear wing of 2 storeys, 2 bays with flat-faced
mullioned windows.
INTERIOR: between bays 2 and 3 the altered fireplace has
original stone surround with cyma and roll moulding; to right
a re-set door lintel has a carved recessed panel with raised
letters: 'RK (1)6?78'.
