plinth, bronze plaque with raised lettering: 'JOSEPH/
PRIESTLEY/ 1733-1804'. Statue base has raised lettering: 'THE
GIFT OF/ T. WALTER HARDING 1903'.
Life-size statue of one of the 4 prominent Leeds citizens
commemorated in the City Square layout designed by William
Bakewell for T Walter Harding, 1902. The statues originally
faced out of the square and stood on a balustraded parapet
which also carried elaborate lamp standards.
