Small country house. Early C19 with mid-C19 additions and C20 alterations.
Stuccoed brickwork; hipped slate roof of low pitch and broad eaves;
stuccoed and corniced ridge stacks; approximately L-shaped original plan
with extensive later additions. Garden front: 2-storey, 3:2:3 window
front, glazing bar sashes in moulded surround; (glazing bars removed to
ground floor and one converted to French casement) segmental-fronted bays
carried through to roof-line and set on to projecting wings flanking central
recess with double string between storeys. Lower set-back wing to right.
Entrance front: projecting wing to right with stone flat-roofed Tuscan
porch set in angle against return; 2 bays to left accommodate 3 storeys
within eaves height of main house, extensive lower service wing projects
to left. One of a number of houses built by the Bass family, brewers of
Burton-on-Trent.
