- II
Farmhouse. Mid C18 with early C19 facade. Brick, colourwashed to front.
Roofs of black glazed pantiles. 2 storeys in 3 bays. Central door behind
elegant Greek Doric porch. Fluted columns and rear pilasters. Doric
entablature. Early C19 sash windows with glazing bars below gauged skewback
arches. At corners giant pilasters lead to plain parapet. Gabled roof with
end stacks, both rebuilt late C20. Datestone on north gable 1773. 2 storey
gabled cross wing to rear much rebuilt in 1980's. Interior. Early C19
staircase with stick balusters and ramped and wreathed handrail ingeniously
twists itself into a space not originally intended for it. In cross wing
re-used early C16 multiply rolled bridging beam. Additional C16 roll moulded
joists not in situ and not from same building as the bridging beam. Spine
beam has sunk quadrant mouldings.
