26.5.54 The Old House
- II
House, now school. Early C19. Red brick with some rendered details,
hipped pantile roof. 3 storeys; 5-first-floor windows. 6-panelled
(2 glazed) door in panelled reveals has moulded and rusticated
architrave with keyblock under an open pediment on consoles. Sash
windows have glazing bars with rusticated lintels on ground and
first floor. Moulded eaves cornice. Later red-brick extensions to
right and left, and several additions to rear. Interior of main range
has doors with 6 raised and fielded panels; cut-string stair with
turned bannisters and dado rails. No obvious details, dateable to c.1689
when the house was described as 'de novo aedificta. N. Pevsner,
