Row of 4 attached houses, Nos 27 & 29 now one restaurant. Mid
C17 with C18 windows. Timber-framed, render and roughcast,
brick party wall stack and a pantile gabled roof. Single front
and rear rooms separated by a central lobby with stairs to the
right.
Each of 3 storeys and attic; 1-window range. 2 attached,
gabled pairs have jettied first floors with strings, and
barge-boards. Paired doorways, have chamfered pegged frames,
narrow overlights and panelled doors. Ground floor has
8/8-pane sash to No.23, 3/6-panes to No.25, and plate-glass
windows to Nos 27 & 29. Full-height oriels have 8/8-pane and
flanking 2/2-pane sashes in exposed frames. The left return of
No.23 has a rear single-storey block with two 6/6-pane sashes.
INTERIOR: No.27 & 29 have fireplaces to the outer side walls
of each pair, with winder dogleg stairs between the fire and
the spine wall; moulded cornice to first-floor front room;
panelled cupboards by fire and to top of stairs in attic;
pegged doorframes and plank doors. No.25 has a right-hand
dogleg winder stair with stick balusters and column newels, a
C17 door frame to ground-floor rear room; C19 joinery the
rest.
Plan form characteristic of mid C17 houses in Bristol, such as
those on King Street.
