House. C16 or early C17, with C20 alterations. Timber-framed with part
wattle-and-daub and part C20 infill. Sandstone rubble plinth; Welsh slate
roof. Three framed bays aligned north/south facing west; large axial stack
backing onto through-passage. Two storeys with four small 2-light casement
windows inserted into square panels of the timber-framing. Five light C20
mullioned windows flank lean-to porch with ledged C20 door. Interior retains
chamfered cross-beamed ceiling with jewelled stops and a fireplace with
chamfered stone jambs and chamfered wooden lintel in present sitting room
with similar smaller fireplace in the room above. The house is on the site
of a priory, a cell of the order of Tiron, a branch of the Benedictine order.
