Manor house. Earlier fabric remodelled in C17, extended c.1800, altered 1983.
Rubble with stone dressings, rendered on returns and rear; slate roof. T-plan
with C19 and later additions. 2 storeys, 3 + 2 bays. Renewed door in 3rd bay
(pre-1980 doorway in 2nd bay); C20 small-pane casements mostly in older openings.
Coped gables with moulded kneelers, stone end and ridge stacks.
Interior: walls of southern 3-bay section 0.9 m. thick, fireplace at north end
with heavy oak hood bressumer formerly spanning full width of building ; roughly-
chamfered transverse beams.6-bay upper-cruck roof has trusses with cambered
collars, 2 levels of purlins and ridge. Added rear wing has closed-string dog-
leg stair of c.1680 with turned balusters, moulded handrail and panelled newels.
Plain kitchen fireplace of c.1800 at north end of main block.
Prior to the recent alterations the earlier 3-bay section of the main block had
a central cross passage; the ground floor walls of this part of the house were
seen to be of rubble and clay construction, built on heavy timber sills. Remains
of early windows with splayed jambs, not visible externally, were found in the
south part of the main block.
