adjacent gatepiers

Lodge and gatepiers, c.1840 by John Dobson. Squared stone with tooled-and-
margined ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof. Cast-iron gates. Elevation to
drive 1 storey, 3 gabled bays. Central bay has porch with panelled door in
chamfered surround with triangular head and hoodmoulds. Flanking bays, the
left set back, with 2-light mullioned windows holding small-paned casements.
Coped gables with moulded kneelers and corbelled-out finials with low pyramidal
caps. Stacks on ridges of central and right bays have corbelled swept caps.
Right return shows 2 similar windows and eaves cornice on moulded corbels.

Adjacent gate screen has 4 piers with chamfered plinths and corbelled-out
pyramidal caps. Central double gates and flanking pedestrian gates have foliate
tops to standards and dogbars. Short wall on left joins to lodge, wall on right
returns to join similar end pier.
