Description

EGLINGHAM HANGWELL LAW
NU 12 SW NU 12502440
2/177 Boundary stone
on boundary with
Ellingham P.C.
II

Boundary stone. Probably c.1755 utilising a large-unshaped stone which may
have served as a previous boundary or route marker. Tilted monolith with
incised letters C H (Carnaby Haggerston) on north and I C (John Cay) on south;
erosion pits in top.

The westernmost member of a series extending across Middle Moor (q.v.). Sir
Carnaby Haggerston held the manor of Ellingham 1740-56 whilst John Cay held
North Charlton 1754-82; the stones mark the boundary between these townships.
