SK 86 NW BESTHORPE SAND LANE (South side)

3/11 Windmill at Mill Farm

II

Windmill c.1746 and 1831. Brick and stone with timber structure within and
C20 timber roof, circular battered tower. 2 stages, the lower section of a
post mill. Brick buttresses carrying stone blocks, supporting projecting
ends of cross trees. Pair of close boarded doors, brick above inscribed
'TC 1831'; pair of shuttered openings all with segmental heads. Second stage
has shuttered opening with segmental head on south-east side, and close boarded
door on north side. Interior has main post inscribed 'J.S. 1746'; cross
trees and quarter bars; oak, whitewashed.
