Cottage. Late C17 with later alterations. Timber frame with brick infill, painted
at front; brick additions; thatch roof; brick stacks. 2-unit plan. One storey with
attic, 2 bays; C20 single-storey added bay to left; probably C19 added side outshut
on right. Rectangular-panelled wall-framing with slightly arched braces from
wall-posts to wall-plate. Late C19 central gabled brick porch with tile roof and
6-panel door. Small-pane windows of 3 lights to left, 2 lights to right. 2-light
attic dormer on right. Much of roof destroyed by fire at time of inspection, but is
hipped over right-hand outshut. Stacks at ends of original cottage. Rear: main
range has two 3-light windows to ground floor and central 1-light window above;
2-light window to outshut on left and to right-hand bay which abuts projecting
semi-circular bread oven. Interior: large-scantling chamfered spine-beams with
run-out stops and chamfered joists on ground floor. Roof retains some burnt rafters
and purlins; some wattle and daub in right-hand gable; and tie-beam, queen posts and
collar at left-hand gable. In state of dereliction following fire damage at time of
inspection (29.8.90).
