Toll house, now house. c.1864. Probably by Sir Gilbert Scott. Red brick with
flared headers in Flemish bond; tile roof with bands of old plain-tile and fish
scale tiles; brick ridge stack to left of centre with 3 square flues forming
chimney. Picturesque style. Single-storey, 2-window range. C20 sash door to
lean-to porch at centre. Lean-to greenhouse to right covering wood cross-window
with diamond-paned leaded-lights to cross-wing to left. Square blind recess to
cross-gable to left. Rear: 2 storey, 2-window range. Interior not inspected.
History: built as toll house for Clifton Hampden Bridge, and probably by Sir
Gilbert Scott for Henry Hucks Gibbs. Included for group value.
