House. Early C17. Timber-framed with roughcast panels, on limestone rubble
plinth. First floor, framed of studs spaced up to 1.5m. apart, is jettied over
ground floor, framed panels deep. Gabled old tile roof; stone left end stack,
mid C19 brick and large C17 brick ridge stacks. 3-unit plan with
through-passage, storeys; 4-window range. Square-headed doorway left of centre
has stepped ovolo-moulded architrave with urn stops. C19 mullioned 2-, 3- and
4-light casements, and C20 window to right. Rear: similar architrave to
through-passage door, and C17 three-light wood-mullioned window with leaded
diamond panes: C17 dairy outshut. Rear right wing; later C17, of similar
materials with C19 brick repairs: similar C17 four-light casement and C18
two-light leaded casement. Interior: C17 panelled door to early C17 panelled
room with debased fluted Ionic pilasters to right: early C17 panelled room
above. Central hall has quartered and stop-chamfered beams and chamfered
bressumer over open fireplace with spice cupboard. Through-passage has
timber-framed partitions and stepped ovolo-moulded architrave with urn stops to
hall door. Room on left has stop-chamfered beam and chamfered bressumer over
open fireplace. First floor has 2 timber-framed partitions with chamfered
doorframes. Attic has collar-truss roof with clasped purlins and windbraces.
Closed truss with some remaining wattle and daub panels divides main roof from
early C17 smoke bay on left (heavily smoke-blackened). Rear wing has newel
stairs to attic.
