12/57 Symonds Farmhouse.

Farmhouse, now house. Mid-late C17. Timber-framed, square slight framing with
diagonal braces; wattle and daub infill; thatched roof; brick stacks. 3-unit
lobby entry plan. 2-storey, 3-window range of C20 casements except 3-light
leaded casements to first floor. Flat hood on carved brackets over 6-panelled
door, both of c.1840. Gabled roof, hipped to right; C17 ridge and two C19
projecting end stacks (that to right has been partly demolished). Interior:
chamfered and stopped beam to left, full set of chamfered and stopped beams and
joists to centre which also has part of early C19 architrave to fireplace with
original chamfered bressumer: early C19 cupboard next to fireplace and also
early C19 straight-flight stairs in original position opposite entry and
adjacent to stack; 3-bay queen post truss with clasped pulins and windbraces;
C18 and C19 plank doors; elm floorboards. C18 wing to rear right has rendered
walls and thatched roof; 1 1/2-storey; 2-window range; full set of chamfered
stopped beams-; 2-bay post and pad truss. Late C20 2-storey extension to rear
and porch to right side wall.
