Circa 1850s in Swiss Chalet style built by Lord Barrington of Beckett Park as a
summerhouse and playroom of timber framing and brick nogging with gabled thatched
roofs and a central brick stack. Greek cross in plan of I storey and attic with gable
ends to each arm and gabled dormers facing SW. The windows have diamond glazing
throughout and the picturesque rustic effect is enhanced by the application of cut
timbers to the brick walls. The garden front was originally the entrance front and
has a plank and batten door. There is a similar door to the roadside front.
The cottage is illustrated in Candida Lycett Green, English Cottages, 1982, p 137
