SWERFORD EAST END
SP3731
9/196 Leys Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C17/early C18 and mid C18. Coursed squared
marlstone; Welsh-slate and Stonesfield-slate roofs with rebuilt gable stacks.
T-plan. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front has a round-arched doorway in a
lattice porch, with keyblock, leaded fanlight and a 4-panel door, below a
segmental-arched 2-light leaded casement; outer bays have 3-light casements with
flat arches and projecting keyblocks. Long 3-window rear wing is probably an
earlier 2-unit house and retains 2 old leaded casements, a plank door and on the
gable wall, a very large rounded bread-oven projection. Gable parapets have
projecting moulded kneelers. Interior: rear wing has a very large open
fireplace.
