Church. 1869, by J.L. Pearson. Squared and coursed limestone; old plain-tile
roof with crested ridge. Nave and apsidal chancel with north tower. Early
English style. Buttresses. Pointed lancets to chancel. Nave has 2-light
plate-tracery windows; 2-storey south porch has statue of Virgin and Child set
in niche flanked by lancet, above pointed moulded doorway with wrought-iron
hinges. 3-light west window of graduated lancets. North-east tower has
saddleback roof and billeted hood moulds over pointed belfry windows with
engaged shafts. Interior: reredos has crucifixion and angels added by Pearson.
Piscina and sedilia; studded door set in pointed moulded archway to vestry.
Apsidal vault and 2-bay quadripartite chancel vault has springers set on pink
marble shafts with bell capitals. Chancel is decorated with C13 style
wallpaintings, with pink and red grisaille, of the Transfiguration and Passion.
Pink and red diapering to dado and mouldings. Gothic-style wrought-iron chancel
screen painted in black and gilt. Nave has 5-bay boarded roof; similar grisaille
painted scenes from the Life of Christ to font and pulpit, the former with
wrought-iron canopy. Quadripartite vault in porch. Plank door set in pointed
arched doorway to passage leading to The Old Parsonage (q.v.).
