House, now divided. Probably late C16 with C18 and early C20 alterations and
additions. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings; addition of squared
and coursed limestone. Stone slate roof. Two-unit plan with flanking later
additions. Two storeys. Central stone ridge stack with weatherings (top rebuilt
in brick) and stone ridge stack off-centre to left (rebuilt in C20). Two-window
front; first-floor 3-light wooden-framed leaded metal casements and ground-floor
3-light ovolo-moulded mullioned stone windows with leaded lights. C20
half-glazed door to right with wooden lintel. Lower probably C18 addition to
right (see straight joint) with C20 brick ridge stack off-centre to right and
2-light leaded casement to each floor with wooden lintel and cill (ground-floor
window possibly former doorway). One-storey lean-to to right. Probably early C20
addition to left (see straight joint) has half-glazed door with wooden lintel.
Two-storey rear wing to rear of right-hand part with parapeted gable end.
Interior: right-hand ground-floor room has altered C16 stone fireplace with
moulded jambs and later mantel-shelf. Old plank door to first-floor rear
corridor with wrought-iron strap hinges and chamfered oak frame with mason's
mitre. Collar truss visible in right-hand cottage. Deep splayed jambs to
windows. Interior of left-hand cottage not inspected. These cottages were
probably formerly part of a larger and more important house.
