Description

1.
5357 WORFIELD
Rowley Farmhouse
SO 79 NE SP/101

II GV

2.
Farmhouse. C16. Timber frame, almost entirely covered externally by late C20 render,
but with evidence of close studding to external walls, tile roof, central brick stack.
Two storeys and attic. Originally an open hall with a cross range. The hall has
inserted floors and partitions. One hall has truss visible in the roof space with roll
moulding and concave chamfer: arched tie beams and chamfered wind braces. The chimney
stack replaces a louvre which is indicated by smoke blackened rafters. The service end
contains a cellar with stone mullioned windows. One room in the cross range contains
a late C16 stone F.P. surround and mid-C17 panelling with small fielded panels. A second
room has a richly decorated late C16 F.P. oak overmantel of two carved panels, each with
a central carved escutcheon, and separated by short carved pilasters: oak square panel
framing with dentil cornice.
