Farmhouse. Late C16 or C17 with late C18 and mid-to-late C19 alterations
and additions. Probably formerly timber framed, rebuilt and extended in
coursed limestone rubble; slate roof. Former one-room end lobby-entry
plan with C18 and C19 additions to East and West. 2 gables to front,
that to left with pigeon-resting boxes in 2 rows and that to right with
blocked segmental-headed window. Large integral lateral stone stack
with brick top in angle of wing at rear, integral brick end-stack to rear
of right-hand block, and integral brick lateral stack at rear of left-
hand block. 3-window front to right; C20 two- and 3-light casements,
first floor blocked window to right; central doorway with C20 panelled
door. C19 two-storey addition to left with first floor 2-light casement,
ground floor 3-light casement and C20 panelled door to right. C18 glazing
bar sashes in right-hand block, to East, and in gable-end at rear. Boarded
door with bracketed hood in angle of wing at rear. Interior: ground
floor room in C17 part with chamfered cross-beam ceiling and large fire-
place with chamfered lintel, roasting jack and charcoal burner adjoining
to right. The weathering at the base of the stack is evidence of a
possible former thatched roof. Agricultural or domestic wing at rear
recently demolished at time of resurvey (October 1984).
